Dr Roger Drew, D.A.B.T.

Dr. Drew is a recognised national and international expert in toxicology and health based risk assessments. He is the only consultant toxicologist in Australia who has certification with the American Board of Toxicology. He has over 30 years experience in toxicological research, interpretation of toxicological data and health based risk assessment. He has been a toxicology consultant to Federal and State Health Authorities, was appointed to several standing chemic expert committees constituted for regulatory assessment of chemicals and an invited member of many expert task groups of the WHO for the International Programme on Chemical Safety. He is Adjunct Professor in Biochemical Toxicology at RMIT.

Dr Drew has applied in-depth health based risk assessment for establishing safe public and occupational exposure limits for chemicals, and for evaluating the impact of chemical contaminants in soil, groundwater and air on human and ecological health.

Aspects of Dr Drew's extensive experience include:
  • Corporate toxicologist for Itll/erica PW Ltd, the largest Australian based chemical manufacturer and one of the world's largest producer of explosives.
  • Strategic advisor and peer reviewer for human health and ecological risk assessments of soil, groundwater and surface water contaminated with chlorinated organic chemicals, explosives, agricultural chemicals or heavy metals from manufacturing in Australia and South Africa.
  • Risk assessor and communicator of potential health impacts on communities living near oil and mineral refining, and chemical manufacturing facilities.
  • Preparation and communication of information for clients, customers and regulators clearly outlining chemical hazards associated with chemical products and risk minimization mechanisms.

Mr John Frangos, M.App.Sc (Toxicology)

A consultant toxicologist with ecotoxicology skills and experience in air, land and water human health and ecological risk assessment. Firstly as a corporate advisor to Hoechst Australia and ICI Australia and later as a consultant to the chemical industry, John has acted as an expert in toxicology, risk assessment and chemical control laws in Australia and New Zealand. John specializes in identifying, reviewing and critically evaluating complex toxicological data using the latest scientific methods and information to pragmatically advise risk managers. John has worked on numerous contaminated site risk assessments in Australia and New Zealand and has experience in establishing risk criteria, preparing toxicity profiles and communicating results to key shareholders.

Some of the projects successfully coordinated by John include:
  • Health based risk assessment assessing impact of air emissions on residents at the boundary of a former gas works site in suburban Sydney.
  • Preparation of chemical toxicity profiles and documenting recommendations for occupational exposure standards.
  • Peer review of a human health/ecological risk assessment of a former Defence Force site in Melbourne. The site was undergoing a formal review to assess the suitability of the site for residential zoning.
  • Human health and ecological screening level risk assessment designed to rule out or highlight exposure pathways of interest and contaminants requiring further investigation for a site adjacent to a major urban river in Melbourne.
